Amid flourishing sales of Korean car brands and disrupted production of new cars due to chip shortage, exports of Korean used cars neared a milestone of $2 billion last year.

국내 자동차 브랜드의 판매 호황과 칩 부족으로 인한 신차 생산 차질 속에서 지난해 국내 중고차 수출이 20억 달러에 육박했다. 

According to the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), South Korea shipped 467,038 in used cars in value of $1.9 billion last year.

한국무역협회에 따르면 지난해 국내 중고차 출하량은 46만7038대, 금액으로는 19억 달러 규모다. 

Shipment count added 20.5 percent while turnover jumped 58.5 percent to an all-time high to suggest more premium cars were sold.

출하량은 20.5% 증가했고, 매출액은 58.5% 증가해 역대 최고치를 기록해 프리미엄 자동차 판매가 늘었다는 뜻이다. 

Pent-up global demand versus the first year of pandemic, while new supply was restricted by shortage of chips, was largely attributed to the jump in shipments in used cars.

팬데믹 첫 해에 비해 억눌린 글로벌 수요와 칩 부족으로 신규 공급이 제한되는 동안 중고차 출하량이 급증한 데 크게 기인했습니다. 

The number of used cars exported that peaked at 469,876 units in 2019 fell to 387,637 units in 2020. Demand spilled over to used cars as consumers had to wait 6 months to a year to receive their orders.

2019년 469,876대를 정점으로 수출된 중고차 대수는 2020년 387,637대로 감소했다. 소비자가 주문을 받기까지 6개월~1년을 기다려야 했기 때문에 수요가 중고차로 몰렸다. 

Korean used cars are mainly exported to countries in Africa and Latin America such as Libya, Chile, Jordan, Turkey, and Egypt. Small diesel cars are popular in these regions and used cars from Korea are especially popular because they are cheaper than European cars.

한국 중고차는 주로 리비아, 칠레, 요르단, 터키, 이집트 등 아프리카와 중남미 국가로 수출된다. 이들 지역에서는 소형 경유차가 인기가 높으며 특히 한국 중고차는 유럽차에 비해 가격이 저렴해 인기가 높다. 

Demand for eco-friendly cars is also steadily increasing. Exports of used hybrid cars increased by about six times in three years to 1,018 units last year. During the same period, the number of electric vehicle exports surged from 25 units to 1,678 units.

친환경차에 대한 수요도 꾸준히 늘어나고 있다. 중고하이브리드차 수출은 지난해 1018대로 3년 새 약 6배 늘었다. 같은 기간 전기차 수출 대수는 25대에서 1,678대로 급증했다.
